Mean Girls
So, I'm doing the Beth Moore Bible Study in a Small Group through Church of the Highlands. I was really looking forward to this particular week - about meanness - and mean people. I needed to hear this!! First, there is always someone in your life that you think is mean - either their actions or their words seem to be mean to you - a personal attack on you, or at least that's how you see it even if they don't mean anything personal by their actions/words. One of the big points of the session was that meanness is the result of a threat.
Well, I've never really thought of it that way. So after managing to run my mouth forever after watching the session dvd, I just realized that I've handled similar situations and moved on, let go - but this one issue just hangs on. I drive Jason crazy with it and struggle - really struggle with it. The one thing I need to do is change MY reaction. I have no control at all over what someone says or does to me, around me, near me - but I can certainly change my reaction. I've just realized that even though I don't think of myself as a 'mean girl' - the way I react to some of the 'mean girls' in my life, causes me to act in a mean way - even if it isn't verbalized to that person. There's been other situations in my life previously where I've set out to change my reaction specifically and it's made a big difference in my life. This one relationship is where I haven't seemed to tackle this problem but I'm working on it!! I'm making a huge effort to work on it. NOW!!
So why are girls/ladies/women this way? It's nuts. I've been involved with so many groups of friends where drama occurs - somewhere - and its usually based on nothing - nothing but she said/she said! I've never been a super secure person. I've always had self esteem issues. I've always thought I was missing out of something - like there was some big secret going on that I don't know about it and everyone else does. I know, I know - stupid. Anyway, this Beth Moore study has been great. I'm learning a lot - even if I'm not doing my homework!! Beth Moore is so so funny. I mean, she really really tells it how it is and she's dead on everytime.
Okay - so that's all I've got today - I'm going to pick up some more boxes tomorrow from the grocery store so I can start packing up more. We've put off the remainder of the move until next weekend since it looks like it may rain this Saturday. We don't have much left to move in the furniture department, but the entire kitchen needs to be packed!! And, believe it or not, there is still a good amount of 'stuff' in my studio and Cole still has a good amount of toys here, too!
So, off to pack a few things and accomplish something.

Happy Hump Day!
I've been a really bad blogger lately. We've been so busy packing and moving, I've just neglected the blog all around. Since I'm confined to the couch today - I thought I would blog some things that have inspired me lately - these are my 'starred' things in my google reader. So, first, why am I confined to the couch? Well, I fainted this morning. For no apparent reason. Went to the doctor and nothing is wrong (other than the run of the mill monthly female crap) - they checked my iron levels and I'm not anemic. They checked my sugar levels and I'm not diabetic. They checked my heart with an EKG and nothing's wrong. So that's good news - according to the doctor. But for me, that's not necessarily good if it means I don't have an answer. But, it is what it is. So, I'm praying I don't faint again and that it was some fluke of Mother Nature.
So, I'm just chilling here. Watched a movie this AM and now I'm watching Days of Our Lives. Waiting on American Idol tonight.
So, on to the inspiration:
Isn't this cute? I saw it on this blog: Unbalanced in Alabama
I would love to make one of these for the new house. She used a canvas so it's super lightweight. She didn't give instructions, but I'm guessing she used a this piece of batting, fabric and ribbon. Oh and the buttons - but I think I would use some brads instead - because I have a lot of those! Not that I don't have a lot of buttons - anyway............
And I love this blog: HWTM I think Virginia told me about this blog. Anyway, check this out:
This is so adorable. I have a cousin-in-law twice removed (or whatever it is when it's the daughter-in-law of your second cousin) who is having a sweet baby girl this summer. I hope I can make something almost as cute as this for her baby shower. It's so stinkin' cute!! And this cute scrapper made it!!
And take a look at this:
From Bakerella! Love her blog!
Aren't these little packs of fries cute? And the burgers are pretty cute, too - but the fries are the best!! I think Cole would like them. Check out more here.
And I love the bright colors here - not sure what I would do with that paper in my home - so it'll probably be purchased at some point for a layout or two and that's all:
So you can go here to see more of her stuff.
So that's all I've got for now. This is just the past two months or so of 'starred' blog entries!! I love Google Reader and love that I can star something instead of just bookmarking it.
Alright - I'm off to finish watching Days and help Cole find the remote for the tv downstairs. Funny - almost all his toys are packed and the toy room is pretty empty but he still had a hard time finding things.

Good Intentions
That's what I've had - good intentions - to blog about me and Jason and our anniversary, to blog about the house, to blog, in general. I've completely neglected it. Last night I dreamed that I dropped my camera into a cake box - hurting the cake and covering my camera with icing. I'm not sure which is worse - the icing coated camera, or the destroyed cake??
So I felt like this dream was a sign to blog - with pictures, or eat cake. I don't have any cake around, but we're heading to my mom's for lunch and I believe she's made a pie and that will be wonderful!! So here we go with photos!!
I don't have tons of before picture - but believe me there was wallpaper and pink and more pink and more wallpaper!!
Here's Cowboy Cole's room:
His room is huge! I didn't take shots of the whole room - this is just the view from the door - across from his bed on the other side of those windows is his chest of drawers and a toy chest. Across from the bed and opposite of the windows and two large bookcases with one of those toy bins with plastic primary colored bins in it (Target carries these) and there is still a ton of room for him to play in the floor!!
This is one of those uppercase living vinyl wall art things. I've had it a while and just needed a permanent place to put it - it's over Cole's bedroom door. It's not exactly in tune with the cowboy theme - but he thinks he's a rock star cowboy, so it's all good!
Not a great shot - I didn't check after I took it - I just snapped and moved on. This bathroom has green tile - that minty green tile from the 60's. The wallpaper was blue and pink (I thought I had a before shot, but I can't find it). It was bad!! So now it's all calm and the green is toned down a bit with a light brown on the top of the wall and dark brown accents. I like it. I am not hating the tile right now at all!!
The guest room - view from the door. You can barely see the scallops around the top of the wall in this shot - but they are there!! :) I like them! I think they need a little more detail, but I'm not sure what's missing. I don't want to outline them - that would take a long time and there's too much furniture to work around now, so they may just stay like they are. This room was white (I think) with border all around the top. Border that was really hard to remove!!
Okay - that's about all I have for today - the rest of my photos are rather dark - didn't notice when I was snapping them so I'll try to take a few more today!!
We are almost done - we've still got things to move - but mostly just things that need to be sorted through and boxed up. Almost all the big furniture is over there now - so we probably only need one more weekend to haul the bigger stuff and I'll spend this week boxing up what's left. Sadly, I'm out of boxes, so I need to unpack some stuff over there, in order to finish packing here! Geesh!!
Gotta run - we're off to my mom and dad's for lunch and then drop another load of stuff at the new house and then it's church tonight - we've missed the last several Sunday's - I'm ready!!!

I really really love Disney!
We were eating dinner one night last week at Bob Sykes Bar B Q and the tv over our table was showing the Food Network Challenge and they were making Disney cakes - they were in DisneyWorld and making cakes for four different special parties. Well, Cole wanted me to DVR it - he didn't really understand that I can't DVR at Bob Sykes. I did find it on later in the week and recorded it. In my search, I found two other episodes of Challenge that were about Disney cakes. We watched one last night that included cakes from Disney classics - Pinocchio, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and my fave - Mary Poppins. The cakes were amazing. I've got another episode on now while I'm taping boxes together - it's all princess cakes. Very Cool. Cole isn't interested in this one - too much pink for him!!
As I've been picking thingsfrom different rooms and packing, I've been watching off and on - more listening since I'm moving around too much. Well, I had to sit down when they started talking about picking a special princess to help judge the cakes. I just knew it hd to be a Give Kids the World kid - and it was!!! THIS is why I love Disney. Yes, Mickey is fab, Donald is funny, I love love love Mary Poppins - but what they do for kids is the best part. I mean - do you have any idea what wish kids get when they go to Disney? I think it really depends on who grants their wish (there are many different wish granting organizations besides Make A Wish). But there is only one place I know of where wish kids get to stay when visiting Disney - it's called Give Kids the World. And that's really what they do. The place is fantastic. Just to mention a few things - they have an ice cream shop that's open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can have ice cream for breakfast there. They have characters come for visits - we met Mickey, Minnie and Spongebob while we were there. They had a train - and good grief, that was like giving Cole the world. I don't know how many times he rode the train. They had train tables, too and we spent a good bit of time there. They also had this giant room with model trains going non-stop. Another thing Cole enjoyed. They fed us, they left goodies in our cottage every day for Cole, the drove around a cookie and cocoa cart at night so you could get a little snack. It was just amazing.
They work with Disney, Sea World and Universal to give these kids and their families tickets to these attractions. These special kids don't want for anything while they are there. They get a special button to wear while at the parks - this brings our all sorts of fun. We didn't wait in line for one single ride, one single character. It was amazing. And this was just your regular trip to Disney thru Give Kids the World. I know I've read other stories about kids who have gone on their wish trip and got to lead a parade, meet all the Princesses, lots and lots of things.
But how about Food Network Challenge picking this sweet Princess to judge the cakes? That is awesome. For one, she gets to feel like a real princess - she got the whole princess makeover - the sparkles, the tiara, the glittery make up!! She gets to be on TV - WOW - what little girl doesn't love that. She gets to help pick the winner and then have a special tea party celebrating HER with the winning cake. But even more important than that - someone watching this may get a little tear in their eye because this sweet princess is a cancer survivor. They may then hug their own little princess a little tighter at bedtime. They may even say a little prayer for all those kids fighting cancer. They may even give some money to a childhood cancer organization to help the fight. Either way - someone will be touched by a show about cakes. CAKES, people!!
Disney doesn't really get enough credit for all they do for these kids. I mean really does anyone know how many kids get wishes granted to go to Disney? Does anyone know how many of those kids have all their dreams come true? I'd really like to know how many kids return for more trips strictly based on how fab their wish trip was. I mean, we've been three more times since our wish trip!! I'm beginning to lose count of our trips!!
Aw, okay back to packing. I just had to gush about Disney for a bit. I'd go back today - really - I could pack quickly!! :)

Happy Date-Aversary!!
Twelve years ago today this cute guy that worked in the shoe department at McRae's asked me if I wanted to hang out with him. I said yes. Twelve years later, we still hang out. It's just at home, on the couch Wii bowling. Or in the new house, pulling up carpet or hanging curtains.
Who knew twelve years ago that this one night of hanging out would turn into twelve happy years? Yes, we've had some ups and downs but NOTHING we couldn't handle!!
I remember the week before Jason finally asked me out. I bought three pairs of shoes. THREE!! I mean, come on, how many pairs of shoes must a girl buy to get asked out? Three must be the magic number. I don't have any of those shoes now of course, but I do have the skirt I was wearing that day at work. Somewhere I think I still have the shirt I wore on that date. I made it into a pillow actually.
I remember my friend Janet telling me I couldn't date Jason because he was 'like, eighteen' and I said something along the lines of 'no he's not! he's 23'!! I was 25 at the time and had usually dated guys younger than me - so 23 was no big deal. Later, I found out he fudged about his age just a bit. But that's a long story :) He actually WAS 18!!!
I remember hanging out that night watching this Michael Jackson/Weird Al video marathon on MTV - with his brother!! Not your ideal first date maybe but we talked and talked and talked - over the videos thankfully and it was great. We were pretty much inseparable from then until now. :)
I remember thinking he was this great guy and so nice to me. I had a guy or two in my life before that point that weren't so nice - weren't great - weren't even close to perfect. Now, don't get me wrong - I'm not here to say my hubby is perfect - we all know that's impossible. But, we've had an amazing twelve years.
I'm so so so very happy that he asked me to 'hang out' during our lunch break that Friday, twelve years ago. I was eating Burger King and watching Days of Our Lives in the break room.
My friend Monique just celebrated her tenth wedding anniversary and she posted all these great stories about her and Jer. It was so sweet to read. So, in the next few days, when I have a chance between packing, hanging curtains and supervising carpet installation, I'll post a little about our life together. It's pretty good!!
So, Happy Date-Aversary Honey!! I love you!!

I {HEART} ER
I think I've seen all but two or three seasons. And those few seasons I missed, I've actually seen a few episodes here and there. I remember when the show first started. It was a great show. I remember Chicago Hope started around the same time. It seems like they were on different nights, but I remember watching them both. Chicago Hope had Adam Arkin and I really liked him and Mandy Patinkin - who's music was great. ER just stood out a bit more - I couldn't miss an episode - and how did I manage that with no TIVO or dvr. I guess it was the old VCR that saved me. If I wasn't home, I'm sure the VCR was programmed to tape it for me.
Anyway - I remember the original cast of ER. I remember Carter being the new guy and how hard Benton was on him. I remember Dr. Green and how he and Dr. Lewis really should have been together!!! And oh Dr. Ross - everyone loved the ladies man Dr. Ross. I also remembered Dr. Ross from the other E/R - the show with Berta from Two and a Half Men. Anyone else remember watching that? Oh, and he was on Facts of Life, too.
As time goes on in Chicago, I got bored with the show - hence the missed seasons. Other shows took it's place - not enought time to reschedule the VCR I guess. Or not enough time to reschedule the DVR. I just lost my love for ER.
But this season - OH MY - I guess knowing it's the final season - I was determined to watch it - every episode. You only had to mention that Dr. Green was returning and I was there. I mean, he's gone - brain tumor - long illness - he's gone! But was he? I mean, I had to know so let's set up the DVR and make sure we don't miss a beat.
So far - and we are pretty much 2/3 through the season at this point - we've seen the return of Elizabeth (Dr. Green's wife), Dr. Green of course (in a great show of flashbacks with the new Chief of Staff), Dr. Carter, Dr. Ross, Carol Hathaway (isn't she a doctor now??), and Dr. Benton. Oh, and don't forget Dr. Morgenstern - he had a comeback, too. Now we've also seen some of the faves leave - Dr. Pratt in probably the saddest episode since Dr. Green died. And Abby left, too - she was my fave female on the show (since Dr. Lewis at least). Now Neela is next - on the next episode she's leaving.
Last nights episode could have wrapped it all up and ended it for me, and I'd have been happy. I love when shows end that way - everything is answered, everything is settled. Well, I know there's more to come - but last nights was just great. I mean, I knew Carol was coming back - but Dr. Ross??? I didn't know he'd be back. I've stayed away from googling for information - I just wanted to take it as it came. So, it was so surprising!!
So if you aren't watching ER at all, or you've just missed this season (or the past few) and want to know what's up - keep reading:
So upon Carter's return, we get all excited that he's back. He's on the clock and working in the ER. At the end of that episode we discover that Carter is sick. He's on dialysis. NO NO NO - don't bring him back just to kill him off - I can't take it. So fast forward to the next week - he needs a kidney transplant - like yesterday - so what are the chances it'll happen? hmmmm..........
There's this mom in the hospital who needs a heart. She's already started a transplant just to find out the blood types don't match. She's being kept alive with a machine and no heart.
So that's two organs we need - a heart, a kidney.
In the meantime a young teen gets hit by a car and there's a struggle with the grandmother over organ donation (which we should all do, by the way). The grandma is Susan Sarandon. The doctors handling the case are Dr. Ross and Carol Hathaway. hmmmmm............ do you see where this is going???
So, in the end Carter gets a kidney, the mom gets a heart - I can just hear Somewhere Over the Rainbow playing in the background. Dr. Ross and Carol have no idea that the 'some doctor' that got the kidney was Carter - if only there was a way for them to know that!!! WOW!! Benton is in the OR while Carter gets his kidney - he pretty much saved his life while there. He's there when Carter wakes up. It was great. Just a feel good episode. I don't really even remember what else happened on the episode because I was so wrapped up in the old doctors being there.
I hope there is more to come. Neela is leaving and I think Abby will make an appearance. I'm still hoping for Dr. Lewis to make an appearance. I think when we last saw her she'd gotten married and was pregnant - or already had the baby, I can't remember. I do know that the guy that played her husband on ER is now on Life, along with Adam Arkin from Chicago Hope.
Well, I know this was a meaningless post to anyone who doesn't {heart} ER like I do - but I just wanted to talk about it!! It seems like maybe I don't have anything else to do, huh? Well, not so!!
We've gotten into the house finally. Rosemary took her time getting out!! We got in last Sunday - and her dog and cat were still there though. Anyway, we got in, started peeling wallpaper and by the afternoon Jason's dad had already started prepping the walls for paint. My Monday afternoon there was no wallpaper left. Jason, my mom and I peeled more wallpaper than I ever care to see again in my life. Mom managed to get the border down in Cole's room by herself and it seems it was the easiest room out of them all. I didn't make it over there Tuesday but Wednesday when I got there the living room, den, hall, and master bedroom were done. It looks great!! While we were there, Jason pulled up the carpet and the hardwoods underneath looked really good - like really really good. Hardly any damage. Just a few million staples holding the carpet pad down and nails from the tack strips. So far there isn't any other real damage. This is so great. We really were hoping for hardwoods downstairs and we were getting new carpet upstairs - but hey, we'll take whatever we can get. So now we have hardwoods up the stairs - through the hall and in the three bedrooms. We're hoping by Sunday or Monday they'll be done - clean, shiny and without holes.
I can't wait to move things in. We still need carpet in the living room and den. I'm actually headed out in just a little while to price some more carpet. We've decided to try to get the majority of Cole's toys in his room. He's already talking about how he's going to miss this house - the one we're in now. He'll miss his giant toy room downstairs. I told him last night that we'll still be able to visit since we know who will be living here. I think one visit will get him over it - once he realizes his toys aren't here. We've gone through that with each new home sweet home we've had. When we would go back to Memphis, he wanted to go to our room at the Ronald McDonald House - he just thought it would always be ours. Sweet Boy!!
Anyway - we're ready to pack everything else and move. I think we'll be shooting for the first weekend in April as the BIG move. But in the meantime, we're taking stuff over each day and filling up the garage with boxes and furniture. Jason will not allow the van to drive to Hueytown without it being filled with boxes. I have to admit, I don't fill it up as much as he does when he drives it over but I'm making a dent in the boxes that are already packed, or that were never unpacked and even took some chairs yesterday so we can stop eating in the floor!! I'm going to go find some more boxes and stuff now to take over there today. I hope we'll have a carpet decision today as well. I'm ready to see the carpet replaced so I can really picture our HOME!
I have picked up a few things here and there to decorate with - some new touches. I found some great T's at Hobby Lobby that were a steal - less that $2 a piece!! These will go great with the other T's I have - two that will get painted soon, I hope. I also have a great cross that Cole's teacher gave me. It's so pretty!! It's made out of old wood and metal - just so pretty! I can't wait to hang it. His teacher gave it to me for subbing for her. She's so sweet!!
Okay - I guess I've stalled long enough. Jason will be calling soon I'm sure to check and see what I'm doing!! :) So, off to find boxes to load in the van, then going to look at carpet and unload those boxes, pick up Cole and head back with more boxes probably!! I hope I'll have some pictures soon to post - At least I'll try to take some over the weekend - I wish I'd done more before pictures - we'll see what I have on the memory card!!
Later,
lisa

Tagged
These are so funny - since you never ever know what you are going to get!! Gretchen tagged me - so here it goes.
Choose the 6th image out of your 6th picture folder from your computer and blog it. Then tag 6 more people to do the same.
My pictures are sort of all over the place - so first I went to 'My pictures' and the 6th folder is the Photo Pass folder where I saved all the images I complete stole off the Disney Photo Pass webpage - don't tell Mickey!!
Now, I'm going to the 6th folder in the "Kodak Pictures" folder, which is where everything saves by default -
This is why I did it twice - this isn't nearly as interesting. It's the bottom corner of a painting I did for my mom for Christmas!!
So Gretchen tagged some of the girls I would have tagged - so lets see who she didn't pick??
Carol, Mandy, Andrea, Amy S, Amy N and Mary
And the fun part is I'm not going to go tag them - I'm going to see if they see if here - which will tell me if they read my blog or not, although I'm pretty sure they do. Really, I'm just too tired to do all the linking up and such!!

Need some help
Let's say you just bought a house. Let's say the current decor in the house is no where near anything you would like to live in. Let's say you have a painter on retainer and you can have the entire house painted - the inside at least. Would you just go neutral and pick a nice color to go just about everywhere? or would you mix it up?
The first house we bought (our last home in Mobile) we painted the bedrooms when we moved in and that was it. The living/dining area and hall were really fine. We later painted two bathrooms and the kitchen - after removing all the old wallpaper.
Now at first, I thought, let's just do a nice medium brown that will look great in the kitchen/den and also in the living room. Hey, bonus - the same shade of brown will look fine with your current bedspread. So - play it safe right? A classic shade throughout.
Well, what if you live in a house that is NOT girlie at all because you are the minority? What you really long for a girlie room somewhere in the mix? Seems like the logical thing to do would be pick a room like the bathroom, something that won't make your hubby cringe when he walks in (like an all pink master bedroom would do) - well, Cole always thinks the bathroom is an extension of his room. So that's out!
So that leads me to the guest room which has always been a little girlie since my furniture is my granny's antique stuff, which I love. I also have a great quilt that my great grandmother made - it's sage and purple - it's pretty. I've used it in the past, but then worried something would happen to it so I put it up. I think I want to get it back out. I think I would like to paint the room a sage green and maybe do a cute scallop around the top of the room, in the perfect shade of purple. My 'painter on retainer' would not want to paint the scallops - but I could do that. This wouldn't be a big change, since the furniture is the same and the color scheme is the same one I had on that furniture for about 10 years.
So here's where I need the help?
Would you do scallops? Would you just girlie-fy one room to save your womanhood? Even if it's a room that's rarely used? And what are your thoughts on a kitchen with pink counter tops??
Would you stick with the neutral or try to use a little more color?
I can't decide (and yes, this is a way to stall the packing I should be doing)!!

We had a Snow Day!
Here's the snow!
Cole was so not interested in the snow. We woke him up to tell him it snowed. He looked out the window then went on to watch cartoons. He's got a cold again - the normal every six weeks cold. So he just wasn't into it. Plus it was 7am and maybe he didn't want to wake up yet. About 9:30 he ran into the living room and said 'Its all extremely white' - from "Snow is My Favorite and My Best" - a Charlie and Lola book.
He spent the day playing inside. Jason went out for about three minutes and it was too cold. I didn't step foot outside. I really wanted to go walk in the snow, but Cole didn't need to be out in that coldness. Oh well - at least I have photos!!
Today, it's back to the routine. Well, as routine as things get around here. Cole's teacher is back, so I'm off. I'll be working on getting something packed up - not sure what exactly, but something! Where to start? hmmmm

I'm a slacker!
Well, at least on Blogger, I'm a slacker. I haven't been slacking anywhere else. I've subbed 8 days this month - six were the last six days of school. So, I've been busy. Cole's teacher had to have sinus surgery and had problems so she needed to be home getting well. Bless her nose!! I felt so bad for her - so I hope while she was gone I did a good job with her kids and didn't leave her classroom in too bad of a mess. I tried to keep things neat are orderly!!
Besides working, we bought a house last week. Thursday to be exact! Thank goodness the closing went well. We had already been put off once so we were a little worried that something else would happen. The current homeowner is still there and is technically supposed to be out by Thursday but we think her moving truck is coming Friday. We'll hopefully be able to head over there Friday during the day and get the keys. Now we're trying to plan painting and floors and all that. We're hoping the floors look really good under the carpet - hopefully nice hardwoods. There's so much to do - like pack, pack and oh yes - more packing!!
I have lots to pack.
But while I'm packing, I'll be cleaning out - there's just only so much you can keep moving from home to home. I mean, if it's still boxed up from Mobile, did I really need it? If there's no super sentimental attachment - then it needs to GO!!
I've been perusing blogs lately looking at decorating ideas. My friend Virginia mentioned one she reads that's great ideas, but I can't remember the name. I need to ask her again. I've got a few ideas I want to try out, but Jason is so not into decorating if it means buying anything new. I don't want to spend a ton of money - but I'd like to do a few things differently. You know, if a new house, a new room - you just want a new feeling sometimes. So, we'll see how that goes. I'll take pictures of the house once we get in and it's empty and then show you what we do in each room. I really can't wait - but I dread the packing and moving it and unpacking. That is the worst part!!! The arranging things and making it all US is what I love!
Okay - I have snow pictures, but I haven't uploaded them yet. I'll do that tomorrow.
Anyone have a need for small styrofoam coolers? They would hold us six pack. I have at least 6, maybe more. I'll actually have another one this week, so I'll have at least 7!!
WOW, I just left a cabinet door open and Jason is telling me I could have been responsible for his death had he hit his head. Goodness!!
On that note, time to put the kid to bed!
